For the last several years, the West coast of the United States has been experiencing massive wildfires. These have been the result of both natural and human phenomena, including fireworks, campfires, lightning strikes, and thunderstorms. As a result of these events, several water sources have become polluted due to deforestation runoff, smoke, released contaminants, and atmospheric contamination. Many areas, particularly rural communities or homes that are supplied by smaller water sources have lost access to clean water for extended periods of time and had to relocate. There are several ways in which one can attempt to de-contaminate drinking water, but several include boiling which can be dangerous if contaminants include flamable chemicals. Other methods use chemical cleaning agents such as bleach which can be effective as a short-term solution, but can be poisonous in their own right if consumed regularly. There are a few methods that dont require boiling or chemicals, including the evaporation method, and the filtration method.
